It has been proven that cast iron cookware releases iron into to foods that are being prepared and thus, into your body when eaten. These effects are less obvious in foods that are cooked quickly or that remain static while being cooked. So what does this all mean? Cooking in cast iron can actually provide you with a crucial element to your body. The iron in cast iron cookware is no different than the iron that flows through your veins. The body needs iron to carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of your body, so low iron means poor oxygen circulation. 30% to 35% of Americans have iron deficiency – women, athletes and caffeine consumers being highly affected. Cooking in cast iron can be an inexpensive way to consume this element so vital to your health. Although it is possible to consume an excess of iron, it is highly unlikely that cooking on cast iron will bring a person’s iron to an unhealthy level. 3. Food sticks to my cast iron cookware.
